President Joe Biden recently had a prop at the ready after NBC host Seth Meyers questioned him about Dark Brandon and the Taylor Swift Super Bowl conspiracy theory via Mediaite.
Meyers has been celebrating the 10th anniversary of the show he took over when Jimmy Fallon ascended to the helm of The Tonight Show. One of his guests from that time was a then-second-term Vice President named Joe Biden.
On Tuesday night’s edition of NBC’s Late Night with Seth Meyers, Biden marked the anniversary with a two-segment appearance, during which co-guest Amy Poehler did a funny bit to introduce him, then reminisced about their work on Parks and Recreation.
And when Meyers asked Biden about his post-Super Bowl jab at the Swift conspiracists and the stunning poll that showed how many of them there are, the president had a visual gag prepared:
SETH MEYERS: We did try to get him for our ten year anniversary show. Obviously, you got a bigger job now. So he was unavailable.
AMY POEHLER: Oh, you couldn’t get him?
SETH MEYERS: I couldn’t get him.
AMY POEHLER: Oh, I could get him.
Unidentified Hey, Mr. President?
SETH MEYERS: Welcome back, Mr. President!
PRESIDENT JOE BIDEN: It’s good to be back. Why haven’t you invited me earlier?
SETH MEYERS: Well. You know, you’re a busy guy. Did you think when you were here, in 2014, this show would make it ten years?
PRESIDENT JOE BIDEN: No.
SETH MEYERS: Yeah. We appreciate we appreciate the honesty, you know. You know, you guys actually, you’ve been colleagues before you work together. You did an episode of Parks and Recreation. We talked about it back in 2000.
PRESIDENT JOE BIDEN: Are you kidding me? I bragged about that all y– for a long, long time.
That was really fun.
That was before president. This was the best gig you ever had.
PRESIDENT JOE BIDEN: And maybe the best gig you ever have. Period.
SETH MEYERS: How was, Amy how was, how was the president as a scene partner?
AMY POEHLER: Well, it was an awesome time to go to DC because we met, with, the then Mr. Vice president, Mr. president, vice president, president. (crosstalk) I don’t want to get it wrong.
But we met people from both sides of the aisle. And then if you remember, we did that scene together, and then, you said to me, how should I act? And I said, just act like, what is this lady doing here? And you nailed it!
SETH MEYERS: There’s something that I’ve been very. It just speaks to the era we live in now. There’s a Dark Brandon conspiracy meme. And this is something that you seem to have a lot of fun with.
You’ve co-opted. You’ve co-opted Dark Brandon. This is a yard sign. And do you enjoy playing around with the Dark Brandon meme?
PRESIDENT JOE BIDEN: No, I resent the hell of it!
SETH MEYERS: Okay.
(Biden puts on sunglasses) (laughter and applause)
SETH MEYERS: Now I want. My favorite one recently is there are 18% of Americans according to recent polling, have, believe that you and Taylor Swift are actually, working in cahoots. And after the Kansas City Chiefs won the Super Bowl. You, you posted this on social media and wrote you wrote “just like we drew it up.”.
Now, can you, I have you on the hot spot here. Can you confirm or deny that there is an active conspiracy between you and Miss Swift?
PRESIDENT JOE BIDEN: Where are you getting this information? It’s classified.
SETH MEYERS: Classified info–.
That’s classified information!
SETH MEYERS: You won’t to share with us?
PRESIDENT JOE BIDEN: I’m not. But I will tell you, she did endorse me in 2020.
SETH MEYERS: She did? So you might be wondering. Might be wondering. Do you think it might come around again?
PRESIDENT JOE BIDEN: I told you, it’s classified.
