Billie Kay opens up about WWE breaking up The IIconics

The IIconics have been one of the most prominent women’s tag teams in WWE over the years. Most tag teams in the women’s divisions are individual Superstars joining forces to win the Championship. But Peyton Royce and Billie Kay of The IIconics were inseparable from the beginning.

The two were best friends, both in and outside of the ring. However, like all good things, their partnership came to an end recently. The IIconics went up against The Riott Squad’s Ruby Riott and Liv Morgan on WWE RAW and lost the tag team match. As per a clause in the agreement leading up to the contest, The IIconics had to break up and part ways.

In the aftermath of their loss to The Riott Squad, the two showed up at WWE RAW Underground where Peyton pushed her friend into the ring to be beaten up by Marina Shafir and Jessamyn Duke.

In a recent interview with Chris Van Vliet, Billie Kay shared her thoughts on WWE deciding to break up their ‘iconic’ tag team. She said that they had to eventually part ways as both of them wanted a singles career down the line.

The break up will give them the opportunity to evolve their individual characters as well as who they were as a team, Billie commented.

“I think we eventually do want to do some sort of singles career. I think that just all comes down to evolving as who we are, as Billie and Peyton and as The IIconics. So when that happens I think that we’ll both have so much fun doing that.” H/T Chris Van Vliet

On this week’s WWE RAW episode, Billie Kay and Peyton Royce faced each other for the first time since breaking up. Royce came out victorious in the match, but there were no hard feelings between the former tag team partners. The two of them hugged it out in the middle of the ring after the match.

Billie also spoke highly of Peyton Royce’s husband Shawn Spears. She reminisced about the time the three of them spent together in WWE, when the two first started dating.

“He’s an absolutely sweetheart, and absolutely gem in my mind. We used to all travel together, it used to be us three. Same car and everything. He’s like my family too. They are just absolutely perfect for each other. I love them both with all my heart. He’s just an absolute sweetheart, I can’t talk highly enough about him.”

There is speculation that the main reason WWE broke up The IIconics is because Vince McMahon wants to push Peyton Royce as a single star along with a few others like Bayley and Bianca Belair, as per a report by Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer.
