Brock Lesnar is the biggest draw in the WWE. The Box Office Attraction has been out of the ring for a considerable time, but he is still in the news. The reason behind this is the referee for the Raw brand Fight Pit match between Seth Rollins and Matt Riddle at Extreme Rules, Daniel Cormier.
Daniel Cormier and Brock Lesnar had a confrontation in the past during the former’s UFC run. While the two couldn’t fight in the octagon the fight can happen inside a wrestling ring in a wrestling format. Cormier has been vocal about wrestling and there was a time when Fox wanted him as a commentator on SmackDown.
WWE has a habit of booking dream matches. The new regime is ready to give the fans what they want, and if it takes them an additional time to get things into space, they will take the due time. Triple H is always ready for a good story, and Dave Meltzer discussed it in the latest Wrestling Observer Radio. Could we see this as a future Raw brand PPV match, or at WrestleMania?
Very, very often when you do this, it’s to set up… Ken Shamrock did that, started as a referee for the Bret Hart and Steve Austin match, and then you transition into wrestling,” revealed Meltzer. “Daniel will never go full-time, I’m sure he will never do full-time WWE wrestling, but would he do a match at WrestleMania? I could see it. Would he do it with Lesnar? I could see it. He’s a big wrestling fan; he might wanna do it.
His name has been mentioned many times as potentially being a commentator on SmackDown. FOX loves him from when he did the UFCs. But he’s with ESPN, so it becomes kind of tricky, although you could get that done. But they have McAfee, and McAfee’s their guy, and I think they see McAfee as a bigger celebrity than Cormier.
With him officiating a WWE match, the issue with ESPN could be put to rest for good. WWE wants to book a bout between two people that can help them grab eyeballs. It would be an interesting time for Lesnar to return and reignite the 2018 UFC confrontation.
