Bruce Prichard replaces Eric Bischoff as the executive director of SmackDown

Bruce Prichard

In a startling turn of events, WWE has announced that Bruce Prichard will replace Eric Bischoff as the executive director of the blue brand. The role will entail Prichard to report directly to Vince McMahon. Prichard will oversee the creative development and the other aspects of SmackDown.

Bruce Prichard returned to the company earlier this year as an addition to the creative team. As of now, no details have emerged regarding the status of Eric Bischoff.

Here’s the press release by WWE:

Stamford, Conn., October 15, 2019 – WWE (NYSE: WWE) today announced that it has named Bruce Prichard the Executive Director of Friday Night SmackDown, reporting directly to WWE Chairman & CEO Vince McMahon.

Prichard will oversee the creative development of Friday Night SmackDown on FOX and ensure integration across all platforms and lines of business, replacing Eric Bischoff.

Prichard brings nearly 40 years of experience in sports entertainment with an extensive background in character development and creative storytelling. Over the course of his career, Prichard has served in a variety of roles including announcer, producer, agent and on-screen personality. Earlier this year, Prichard returned to WWE as a member of the company’s creative team.

Friday Night SmackDown airs at 8 pm ET/PT on FOX.

  • Nothing says fresh ideas like… *checks notes* …Bruce Prichard.

I think HHH already have people in place when he goes up to Raw or Smackdown. HBK would probably take control or William Regal. But I also think HHH is having more fun in NXT I still say NXT is WWE best show it so easy to follow.

I fully believe that Triple H was offered one of the director jobs, but he knew that vince would never release any REAL control over the shows and in the meantime, NXT would suffer or he would be stretched too thin between NXT, NXT UK, and either Raw or Smackdown and from what we’ve heard, he’s already at both Raw and Smackdown the way it is.

  • Nicholas Giambattista

I think Eric Bishoff much like Magic Johnson with the Lakers life is not Pro Wrestling anymore he has move on.

  • Nicholas Giambattista

I think it only a matter of time until HHH takes the job why Vince Mac doesn’t trust HHH I will never know. What he done with NXT tells me he more tune in to the wrestling fans today.

  • Dirt McGirt

I knew this whole executive director thing would never last. It’s too bad, with Eric moving and all. From what I understand though, his role was different than Heyman’s. While Heyman actively is part of the creative team, I was under the impression that Eric was there more to meet with Fox and make sure the writers did their jobs, but not actually contribute to storylines. Maybe he can help NWA get on AMC or Paramount.

  • Too bad Bischoff moved his family etc. just to take that silly, ill-fated job.

  • Michael Justin Arnold

Eric’s a smart man, getting out before they blame Smackdown’s failure on him. He saw the writing on the wall after the draft totally gutted Smackdown’s roster.

It’s been confirmed that Bischoff is done with WWE entirely.
