Charlotte Flair: Asuka not being in WM main event is not a bad thing

Current WWE SmackDown Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair thinks it’s not a bad thing that Asuka is not in the WrestleMania main event along with Becky Lynch and Raw Women’s Champion Ronda Rousey.

Fans are not on board with the title being taken off Asuka just days before WrestleMania. Flair was asked by Sporting News what she thinks on Asuka not being included in the title picture.

“Here’s the thing — last year, when I wrestled Asuka to break her streak at WrestleMania 34, all I could think about is making her proud. I mean, she’s wrestled all over the world. She had this incredible streak that no one had seen in the history of the business. So, for me, wrestling her … everyone had so much hype for this match, so it was really living up to the expectations and cementing my legacy. And then, obviously, having the title match out of nowhere with her [on SmackDown last month], in my opinion, will only open up more doors for people to see the magic that Asuka and I could make and that’s the bigger picture.”

Flair says that Asuka not being a WM headliner is not a negative and it is a story and opportunity for Asuka and her to have more great matches later on.

“People will regard [Asuka’s omission from the main event] as a negative, but no. This is a story. People want better. This just has the opportunity just to get better for people to see just how much further Asuka and I could take each other in the ring and entertainment-wise. There’s no other woman that I’d rather do that with than Asuka because people have already seen us have two — well, three now — matches and I know what we could do.”

While Flair is going down in history as one of the first women to main event a WrestleMania, Asuka’s role at the Grandest Stage Of Them All will be to participate in the WrestleMania Women’s Battle Royal at the pre-show. Let us know if you agree with Flair’s opinion here.

Asuka needs a heel turn and I believe she will be holding the Women title once that happens.

Can’t wait to see how Vince botches Kushida…

  • Soulshroude

I’m confused, is Charlotte a face or a heel with this article?

Vince can’t pass away soon enough. It’s not just Nakamura and Asuka, it’s literally almost every single NXT name called up. Who from NXT has “made it” once they got to the main roster? No one. The Shield guys were more FCW, so you can’t really count them. Triple H makes these guys stars and then Vince just craps all over them. The Raw tag division is such a joke you have to beat three jobber tag teams in one match just to get any credibility because all those teams have been booked into the ground. A victory against Titus Worldwide? Meaningless. Against Ascension? Meaningless. Against the B-Team? Almost meaningless. Against Breezango? Meaningless. Hawkins and Ryder? Meaningless. Gable and Roode? Almost meaningless. Rhyno and Slater? Meaningless. All those teams to go through and not one single victory that matters.

In a perfect world, it wouldn’t be a bad thing. In the real world, it means she is underutilized great talent.

They should have had charlotte attack Ronda or Becky and get thrown out of the match and then have Asuka get a rematch at Mania and make charlotte look like a complete jobber. charlotte is an overrated pile of garbage.

    Shut up Charlotte!

  • Rinn13

No, it IS a bad thing. She’s probably the best female wrestler on their entire roster, yet her Championship reign was treated almost as if it didn’t exist, her “historic women’s RR” win led to her losing at WM, and now she’s not even ON this WM. That is a bad thing, and Flair, much like her old man, is a phony.

  • Rinn13

Yes, because she’s Japanese. Look at his history of treatment towards Japanese wrestlers, even the ones he’s “pushed” recently like her and Nakamura, and you’ll see that he has never liked them, in part because they don’t fit his “image” of a Champion wrestler, and in part because they usually don’t speak super great English. He even did this to the legendary Ultimo Dragon. Vince is lame.

Maybe Vince is upset with Asuka for some reason.

Umm… Yeah. It’s not a bad thing for Charlotte since she’s getting the credit and the main event money for Mania. And by saying this, she may have spoiled that she’s going over and will feud with Asuka after Mania. But after all the Kana has done in the business, she deserves he day in the sun at Mania. Going from a title match on the card to a preshow battle royal that she probably won’t win isn’t a step in the right direction. Long term booking doesn’t mean anything when you lose viewers in the short term who are disappointed in what you are doing.
