Ronda Rousey lost her title to Charlotte Flair on SmackDown, and botched a promo beforehand, wondering if Charlotte wanted a match at SummerSlam, then correcting herself and stating the Royal Rumble. Rousey had successfully defended her title against Raquel Rodriguez but ‘The Queen’ made her return and dethroned Rousey.
Charlotte Flair had been away from WWE programming since she lost the SmackDown Women’s Championship to Ronda Rousey at WrestleMania Backlash in May this year. After that match in Providence, R,I., WWE wrote Flair off television by claiming she had suffered a fractured radius. In reality, Flair was scheduled to take time away from WWE to marry AEW star, Andrade El Idolo in Mexico. The pair tied the knot at the end of May after becoming engaged in January 2020.
