Chris Jericho says WWE “started this war, and the very first night they got destroyed”

The first “Wednesday Night War” is in the history books and as we reported last night, AEW Dynamite crushed WWE NXT by a quite significant margin.

Both sides have publicly played down the idea of this being a war but clearly there is healthy competition to be the winner, and comments like this from AEW World Champion Chris Jericho add further fuel to the fire:

“They kinda started this war, and the very first night they got destroyed. Big deal, it’s our first debut, great, but they have to come back and say ‘it’s a marathon, not a one-night sprint.’ Who’s ever said it’s a one-night sprint? It’s not a war for us. Now, we’re placed in one, and we’re gonna kick ass because we’re going to do what we do very, very well. There’s a little bit of an arrogance towards us that’s now gone.”

The full clip is available at Complex and Jericho also says that WWE’s statement congratulating AEW on their TNT debut was because they’re embarrassed.
