The time when James Gunn was getting married, he made sure his friend Chris Pratt had the funniest wedding speech ever and he wrote it himself. Pratt’s comedy genius did the rest.
While the director’s typically friendly with all of them, some of his colleagues move to the next stage and become Gunn’s friends — and Chris Pratt is the most famous example of that as he’s been the director’s best pal for years.
Considering that the two of them have spent over a decade working together, it’s only logical that they have a great trusting relationship.
But few people know just how close Gunn and Pratt really are. Pratt was invited to the director’s wedding, and he even had James Gunn write his wedding speech for him
The famous director shared how this funny event went down in his recent interview on Michael Rosenbaum’s Inside of You podcast. Rosenbaum was also among the guests at Gunn’s wedding, so he could relate to the story.
“[Chris] comes up and says, ‘My name is Chris Pratt,” and then he… talks about how foxy my wife is, and he’s like, ‘Yeah, I married Catherine.
She’s pretty good.’ He would break, and he’s like, ‘I’m sorry, Catherine, I didn’t write this.’ And he goes on and talks about how much better the Guardians movies are than the Jurassic World movies,” laughed Gunn.
Apart from his own sense of humor the director has exploited while writing his friend’s speech, it was Chris Pratt’s unmatched comedic delivery that really had the guests gasping for air from laughter, James Gunn admits.
Pratt made his whole performance appear as if he was cluelessly reading the speech for the first time.
“He was so funny, He was so funny the way he delivered it, and people afterward were like, you know, because his acting was so good, people were like, ‘Did you really not read that until you went up there?’ <…>
But he had, we were flying back from San Diego Comic-Con and we were talking about what he was going to read at my wedding, and then we came up with that concept together,” shared the director.
Now this is the role model for every workplace relationship! Imagine having a boss you could indulge in such goofy experiences with together — and Chris Pratt has one.
James Gunn, on the other hand, is also a winner as he has a brilliant prodigy of an employee who’d always support his shenanigans and execute them perfectly.
