Claressa Shields is regarded as one of the most talented boxers in the sport today and this was made abundantly clear after she was nominated for ‘Best Boxer’ at this year’s edition of the ESPYS. However, she ultimately would lose out to Tyson Fury. Taking to social media via Twitter, Shields congratulated Fury but stated that going forward ESPN & the ESPYs should offer a ‘best female boxer’ category as she was the only female boxer nominated this time around. Claressa Shields recently ‘exposed’ this Conor McGregor lie
Shields would state: “Shoutout to the big man Tyson Fury on winning the best boxer @ESPYS but It should be a best female boxer and best male boxer for categories! Same in MMA @ESPYS! I was only female nominated against ALL men!”
However several boxing and combat sports fans were critical of Fury’s ESPY win, mainly due to the fact that Tyson Fury hasn’t competed in a single boxing match all year. In a tweet in response to Shields’ congratulatory comment towards Fury, one fan stated: “What my sister is saying is on point!!!! And she is Damm right !!! Show her the respect… The world knows but seems you all at espy don’t know. Stay strong sister” While another put: “Yeah but Tyson Fury has defended his world title & switched Sports this year… no wait, that was you. He hasn’t fought.”
