CM Punk “absolutely” up for a return to wrestling

CM Punk

CM Punk has been making the rounds to help promote his latest film, Girl on the Third Floor, which has been getting rave reviews across the board. While sitting down with My Mom’s Basement Podcast, the former WWE Champion was asked again if he was open to a return to the world of professional wrestling.

Normally, the answers CM Punk has given have been pretty vague. However, this time around, he let it be known that he would enjoy getting back into the sport.

“Absolutely. For five years I’ve always been asked that question. No matter what I say, it gets reduced to clickbait and it gets warped. I’ve gone through so many iterations of people saying ‘Oh, Punk hates wrestling.’ None of that was ever the case. I think I’ve always been open to it.”

“My attitude has always been that I don’t see it happening. I think I’ve talked about it more recently, but my attitude hasn’t changed. People always ask what it would take to go back, and I say it would take a big bag. So people use their imaginations.”

In regards to both the WWE and AEW, he feels that they’re taking advantage of rumors about his return to keep fans interested.

“I actually think both companies have used the fact that I’ve been whatever about it to kind of rope people into it every now and again. To make people think I’m coming back on a specific show at a specific time.”

“Whenever a mystery opponent is announced they’ll think it’s CM Punk. There is nothing wrong with them trying to do that. They texted me second-hand an offer and I was like ‘real offers only please.'”

Punk’s been pretty vocal about the offers he’s received from AEW in the past. When asked if it was possible that he could land there, he again clarified that he’s yet to be approached properly.

“How many shows have they had? There’s not a lot of content out there for me to be able to watch. I like the Young Bucks, I like what they’re doing, it’s very punk rock. I’m that white whale in pro wrestling. I don’t know if that freaks people out on how to approach me, it is what it is.”

“I’m open to the idea, I haven’t been approached properly. I’m not courting anyone to show up with a dozen roses at my front door.”

I agree with Punk that a lot of what is said about him these days is pure clickbait (this article kinda proves that with its clickbait headline), but it is also true that in the earlier interviews he did he did say he had “fallen out of love with wrestling, and had no intention of ever wrestling again”.
I even said back then that what you say now is not necessarily how you will feel in several years time, as has been proven with many wrestlers over the years who out and out said they would never go back to WWE, yet did years later.

A few months ago I started to notice a softening in his stance towards wrestling and even WWE, and his most recent comments seem to back that up even more. I do believe that now he has put all the legal cases behind him (the Cabana one is now apparently settled as well), he has now calmed down and realised that while he does not need wrestling, there is still a place for him in it.
His comments about being the white whale of wrestling are spot on. He is that elusive guy that everyone wants (no matter how they deny it), and whoever lands him will be the promotion who has the biggest bragging rights.

Yup, pretty much standard for this site these days.

Editor of this article: -reduces what he said to clickbait, and warps it-

    Fantastic job, guys. Just brilliant.
