The question on most minds is “When is CM Punk returning?” That question has resonated through the internet since Punk’s departure from WWE. Some of us believed Punk would jump to AEW and some of us thought he would go back to WWE. There were even some of us who suspected maybe a run in NJPW or even TNA. Well, it looks like NONE of those options are correct as it stands currently. We will be seeing Punk in a ring elsewhere – it just might not be where you would ever think it would be. Starz has announced the premiere date for their upcoming wrestling drama series Heels. The television network announced that the series will premiere on August 15 at 9 pm ET. The show stars Stephen Amell (Green Arrow) and Alexander Ludwig (The Hunger Games, Vikings) as brothers who battle over their late father’s wrestling promotion in a small town in Georgia.
Don’t care yet? Well, CM Punk is also part of the cast as Ricky Rabies, a wrestler. So, yes, we will be seeing Punk in a wrestling ring in August, but don’t expect this promotion to go to war with WWE or AEW.
It should also be noted that Stephen Amell is no stranger to the ring either as he has taken part in matches for WWE, ROH, and for what would eventually become AEW. At SummerSlam 2015, he teamed with Neville (PAC) to defeat Stardust (Cody Rhodes) and Wade Barrett. In Ring of Honor, he teamed with Kenny Omega and The Young Bucks to defeat Frankie Kazarian, Scorpio Sky, and Flip Gordon at Survival of the Fittest 2017. At All In a year later, he lost to Christopher Daniels in a singles match.
