Cody Rhodes trying to trademark old WWE name

Latest report suggests that AEW Vice President Cody is looking to take out WWE once again by trying to trademark his old ring name of the company.

According to reports from PWinsider, the former ROH Champion has filed an application to trademark the name Cody Rhodes for merchandising purposes and to use it as a ring name for a wrestling personality.

He was able to file the trademark because WWE let their trademark on the name expire and they did not make a move to keep the rights of the name.

WWE’s trademark of Cody Rhodes name expired on October 13 last year and they were given a 6 months grace period to re-file an application. The period ended on April 12 this year but the company did not act on the deadline.

The AEW star was quick to act on the opportunity and he filed the application to trademark his name on April 13, a day after WWE’s claim on the name expired.

Cody Rhodes has previously said that he can use the Rhodes name if he wants and it appears that WWE is also not interested in keeping the title but it would still be interesting to see if the AEW star is able to trademark the name successfully.
