There is absolutely no doubt that Rey Mysterio is one of the most popular and greatest luchadors to have ever stepped foot inside the world of professional wrestling and remains a beloved Superstar in WWE. On the WWE WrestleMania Backlash Premium Live Event in 2021, Rey Mysterio and his son Dominik Mysterio challenged Dolph Ziggler and Robert Roode for the Smackdown Tag Team Titles. They would go on to defeat Dolph Ziggler and Robert Roode for the Smackdown Tag Team Titles and become the first-ever father and son duo to win the WWE tag team titles in the company’s history. Rey Mysterio’s daughter Aalyah Mysterio is also gone for a bad reason.
The two lost the titles eventually and last year, they feuded Dominik Mysterio joined Judgment Day. Rey is now on Friday Night Smackdown.
Dominik Mysterio has shown a new edge to his character lately, and some of it looks to be the shades of his real-life godfather, Konnan. He addressed the comparisons to him and whether it was intentional or not while speaking with the Wrestling Inc. Senior Editor Nick Hausman before the Royal Rumble.
“I had a flannel, and we made it work. And after that, I saw on the internet that I was just getting tagged in all the — like you said — NWO Konnan stuff and Wolfpac and Filthy Animals Konnan. And he reached out to me. He’s like, ‘Did you do that on purpose?’ I was like, ‘No, but now I will.’”
