In a recent development, Michael Cohen, the former personal attorney of the ex-US President, Donald Trump, has filed a motion to dismiss a lawsuit that was filed against him by the former president. The lawsuit accused Cohen of breaching his fiduciary duty and demanded a compensation of $500 million.

Cohen, who is known for his association with Trump, has denied all allegations and has stated that the lawsuit is a baseless act of retaliation and intimidation. In a court filing, Cohen’s attorneys, Benjamin Brodsky and Danya Perry, argued that the lawsuit lacked any substantial grounds and that it was an attempt by Trump to silence him.

The lawyers further stated that the lawsuit was a product of Trump’s vindictive impulses, and described it as frivolous and scattershot. They also accused Trump of witness intimidation, pointing out that the lawsuit was filed around the same time as Cohen was indicted on criminal charges that were largely based on grand jury testimony given by him.

Cohen’s attorneys alleged that the timing of the lawsuit was not a coincidence, and that Trump was fully aware that Cohen was a key witness in the criminal matter against him. The attorneys noted that the criminal charges related to the hush money payment scheme, in which Cohen had pleaded guilty, and which Trump was allegedly involved in.

In their motion, Cohen’s lawyers argued that Trump’s lawsuit was a brazen and unlawful attempt to silence a witness against him. They called for the dismissal of the lawsuit and for an end to what they described as Trump’s campaign of retaliation.

The lawsuit filed by Trump accused Cohen of making false and inflammatory statements about him in books, podcasts, and media appearances. Cohen’s attorneys argued that the lawsuit lacked any specific allegations and failed to state a claim, making it legally deficient.

“This timing is no coincidence,” Cohen’s motion said. “The [Manhattan DA’s] indictment relates to the hush money payment scheme between Mr. Trump, Mr. Cohen, and others to influence the 2016 presidential election by paying off an adult film star so that she would not publicize her affair with Mr. Trump. This is the same scheme to which Mr. Cohen had pleaded guilty, and Mr. Trump is well aware that Mr. Cohen is an important government witness against him in the pending criminal matter.”

“The Complaint in this case is yet another brazen and indeed unlawful attempt to silence a key witness against Mr. Trump. And, once again, Mr. Trump’s campaign of retaliation should be shut down.

The ongoing legal battle between Trump and Cohen is just one of the many controversies that have surrounded the former president’s tenure in office. As the legal proceedings continue, it remains to be seen how this case will unfold and what implications it may have for both Trump and Cohen.
