WWE announced today that their world champion Drew McIntyre has tested positive for COVID-19. WWE had several outbreaks last year, but in recent months the roster has appeared to have less glaring absences on television. It appears that the latest outbreak is also affecting other WWE and even AEW wrestlers.
Sean Ross Sapp just tweeted, “I have a story coming soon about another COVID outbreak in wrestling. Almost all nationally televised brands affected this week.” Sapp also reported on Fightful Select that the new outbreak is leading to multiple WWE, AEW, and Impact Wrestling matches being canceled and talent being pulled due to testing positive for COVID.
AEW’s Nick Jackson revealed a few days ago, “Crazy to think there’s still COVID deniers out there in the world. I had a pretty bad case of COVID in early September that kept me bed ridden for nearly 3 weeks. I couldn’t taste or smell for 2 [and] a half months.”
“At one point my whole body had hives in it and my doctor said that it was definitely from COVID. Matt had to do the majority of the work in matches once I returned safely because I couldn’t catch my breath.
My cardio is finally back but it took months to finally feel like myself again. Let’s protect each other and wear masks.”
EC3 was diagnosed with COVID last month, leading to him being pulled from a Ring of Honor PPV.
