Drew McIntyre getting COVID recently stunned the wrestling world, and on the latest episode of the “Nitty Gritty Dirt Show” on RussosBrand.com, host Billi Bhatti and former WWE writer Vince Russo discussed how he has heard that the current WWE Champion thinks he could have caught COVID-19 during a New Year’s Eve dinner. Wrestling-Edge transcribed Bhatti’s comments below.
Bhatti said, “One other thing sort of related to COVID, from a personal conversation I had – Drew McIntyre is one of those wrestlers who doesn’t go out that much at all and is super careful, trying to be an example. He thinks that he caught COVID potentially on New Years Eve because that was the only time that he went out and was exposed to people – when he went out to dinner with his wife.”
In other news regarding Drew McIntyre the current WWE Champion assured fans that he will be at this year’s edition of the Royal Rumble pay-per-view event. McIntyre said the following while speaking at this year’s SES event, giving an update on his health and talking about his status for the mega event:
“Like I mentioned on Monday, I’m one of the fortunate ones that aren’t experiencing any symptoms, but I just wanted to reinforce, WWE wanted to reinforce to everyone how important it is to continue to listen to all the health guidelines, to wear your mask, practice social distancing and thankfully we are so strict in regards to our testing that the test found out that I was — that I tested positive and that we couldn’t risk having me in the building around our employees, affect their health and perhaps affect one of their family members’ health that’s more of the high-risk category. But, thankfully I’m feeling good right now.”
McIntyre continued: “Absolutely none [questions if he’ll be at the Royal Rumble]. I will be there. I’m following the doctor’s protocol, I will be there. I’m gonna face Bill Goldberg, somebody I watched as a kid. Very exciting for me.”. (h/t to ProWrestling.com for this transcription.)
