Drew McIntyre ‘Rejected’ Major Raw Match?

Did Drew McIntyre reject a rematch for the WWE Championship against Bobby Lashley? ‘The Almighty’ did defeat ‘The Scottish Warrior’ during night one of WWE WrestleMania 37 and during the latest episode of ‘The Nitty Gritty Dirt Show’, former WWE writer Vince Russo and noted wrestling journalist Billi Bhatti discuss how Drew McIntyre allegedly turned down a championship rematch against Lashley at Backlash, a pay-per-view that is noted for being historically based around the very concept of rematches. Is Drew McIntyre going to be ‘replaced’ at WWE Backlash?

It should be noted that McIntyre and Bhatti talk regularly and Bhatti uses McIntyre as a source on a regular basis so it is clear that he is talking about McIntyre in this instance. Wrestling-Edge transcribed the following remarks.

Bhatti: I was asked, and I think you know who it is, about someone who was concerned about the direction that they were gonna go in and if I had any ideas because they were all ears. I actually wrote a direction out and spent two hours writing this thing. Writing a direction that we should go into now, a promo to cut, etc. I don’t think that my exact idea was necessarily going to be used but at 9:00 PM in the UK, which is four hours before RAW starts, I knew the direction at least wasn’t going to be doing rematches. I know this because the person I am talking about, the one thing they didn’t want is to be going into a rematch, the show airs and we see a rematch for the championship. The person knew that isn’t what they wanted to do and that was the last thing they wanted.
