Drew McIntyre posted photos with his wife at a restaurant on New Years Eve just a couple of weeks before testing positive for COVID-19, along with other WWE stars. The beloved WWE champion wrote at the times, “We’re laughing because it’s over, crying because it happened. Goodbye 2020!!! 🎉
Side note- happy belated birthday to my wife, my best friend xxxx.” WrestleVotes is reporting that despite McIntyre being out, Randy Orton will still main event Raw tonight. WrestleVotes tweeted, “Source – with Drew McIntyre out, WWE is keeping Randy Orton in tonight’s main event and are working on finding a suitable replacement to match up against the College Football Championship Game.”
Reporter Denise Salcedo tweeted a get well soon message, “Drew McIntyre appreciation post, the man has been working extremely hard each & every single week, putting on lots of great matches, etc. Plus, I am pretty sure being a champion during a pandemic isn’t all that easy or even the dream scenario. Really wishing him a speedy recovery.”
Dave Meltzer tweeted, “PW Insider reported McIntyre testing positive for COVID and WWE confirming it. More to come, but obviously his match with Orton tonight is off.”
McIntyre was scheduled to wrestle Goldberg at the Royal Rumble later this month for the WWE Title, with Hulk Hogan previously being planned to get involved in a fight. It’s unclear now if the match will still take place.
