Edge ‘Defends’ Hulk Hogan Before WrestleMania 37

Edge is tired of the Hulk Hogan disrespect, brother! during a recent interview Ryan Satin on Out of Character, ‘The Rated R Superstar’ recently discussed how he misses the days of clear good and bad guys in the landscape of professional wrestling & sports entertainment, putting over the now controversial Hulk Hogan, who will host WrestleMania 37 with Titus O’Neil.

During this discussion, Edge would use Hulk Hogan’s classic feud with Roddy Piper around the first WrestleMania to describe how back then, everyone knew who was supposed to be booed and who was supposed to be cheered, though Piper would get cheered at times with fans turning on and booing Hogan. “At some point, there needs to be that heel that is not that overpowering heel,” he began. “That is conniving and manipulating. ‘Oh man, if the babyface can get his hands on that guy, he would tear him apart,’ but he never does because the heel is always two steps ahead. I don’t know who that is right now or who is being given that opportunity. Somewhere along the way it became less about heels and faces and just about stars.

In that, I think you lost some of that dynamic. I know the argument is, ‘as long as there’s a reaction,’ but there’s a reason that stories generally have good and evil. You can have shades of gray in there, but if they all navigate through shades of gray then you can get apathy too. I personally love the white and black hat, but I don’t know how realistic that is now with how splintered and fractured everything is with social media changing every form of entertainment.”
