Taking to her YouTube channel, Marie shared the story. Marie revealed that her first appearance on television was meant to be a part of the Total Divas crew on Miz TV.

However, moments before going live, she was informed that she would not only have lines to deliver but also had to slap Jerry Lawler.

Confused and unprepared for the task, Marie admitted to feeling unsure about how to execute a proper slap, especially since Lawler was an older gentleman. As a result, her attempt at the slap ended up being one of the worst in WWE history.

“When I got back into Gorilla, everybody was laughing at me because I slapped him (softly) and he kind of was like, you know, tried to sell it as best as he could,” Marie shared in her YouTube video.

The incident served as a “rib” or a practical joke on Marie, as she was unexpectedly tasked with the slap without proper guidance. Despite the mishap, Marie took it in stride and has since learned from the experience.

Eva Marie started her WWE career in 2013 after she impressed talent scouts during a casting call. Marie was quickly pushed to WWE programming when she was featured in the reality show Total Divas for seven seasons and was called to the main WWE roster after two weeks of in-ring training. She made her debut on WWE Raw in July 2013 for a backstage segment alongside the cast of Total Divas.

Marie was initially booked as a heel in a high-profile feud with AJ Lee and briefly, tag-teamed with Natalya for a time. After two years on the main roster, Marie was moved to the NXT roster where she went on an impressive winning streak, defeating the likes of Billie Kay, Carmella and Liv Morgan. She was moved back to the main roster in 2016, with the gimmick of using unfortunate accidents to avoid in-ring competition.

Marie left WWE in 2017 to pursue a film career and re-signed with WWE in October 2020 before making her on-screen return in May 2021. She returned with the gimmick of a proven celebrity looking to help other women achieve success on the main roster. Marie was paired with Piper Niven, whom she re-named “Doudrop. However, following a lack of creative direction Marie was released last year.
