Finn Balor explains origins of his “Demon” body paint

Finn Balor was among the long list of Superstars and legends who appeared during the WWE SummerSlam 1992 Watch Party on FOX Sports 1 (FS1) earlier this week, and during his appearance on the live stream, “The Demon” explained the interesting origin story behind his face-and-body paint.

The WWE NXT Superstar told the story while talking with Renee Young, Booker T and CM Punk on the Watch Party special.

“The paint was kind of like a weird idea,” Balor started. “It was just supposed — it was supposed to be a once-off. I had been working like babyface, straight squeaky clean babyface, for like six and a half years in Japan, and they asked me, ‘Do you want to turn heel?’ So I figured, okay, I’ll take everything away that they recognize from me as a babyface.”

He continued, explaining how not wanting to wear a bodysuit contributed to the body paint idea, and what he was hoping to get over in the match with the fans by wearing the body-paint.

“So, [Jushin Thunder] Liger had already worn the bodysuit, and I didn’t really want to change my body too much so I thought, why don’t I just cover it all in black paint? The idea was that the babyface, [Kota] Ibushi, would be wrestling against this shadow in the ring.”

So, there you have it straight from the horse’s mouth. That is how the popular “Demon” face-and-body paint came about for Finn Balor.
