Finn Balor reveals he wanted 10-year deal with NJPW

Finn Balor will be challenging Brock Lesnar for the Universal Title at the Royal Rumble this Sunday. He was the first Universal Champion and held it for a day before relinquishing it due to injury. While he has won many championships in his wrestling career, he did not have much luck in WWE.

Balor spoke on E&C’s Pod Of Awesomeness, where he talked about his entry in WWE. He said he never considered WWE and that the company approached him. However, Balor did not want to leave NJPW and wanted a long-term deal there.

“I was kind of like thinking more long-term and I remember asking, I’m 33 at the time and New Japan offered me a two-year contract and I’m like, ‘That’s a cool contract, but can I have it for 10 years?’”

“It was something to do with New Japan was owned by a video game company and that contract was only for five years so they could only give me a five-year contract.”

Balor already knew how NJPW treated some other foreign talents after they got older. So he decided to go to WWE. Things might have been different if NJPW decided to keep Balor.
