First title defence of the AEW world title announced

While the crowning of the first-ever AEW World Champion is still pending, the company has already announced when and where the first defence of the title will take place.

 


 

We noted before how AEW has been announcing a number of matches for the first few episodes of their TV tapings including a recently announced match for Jon Moxley and more.

Now the company has announced that their world title will be defended for the first time at the Wednesday, October 16 AEW TV taping from Philadelphia, which will be the third episode of their television show.

Hangman Page will be going one on one against Chris Jericho in the main event of the upcoming All Out event later this month and the winner of this bout will be crowned the first AEW World Champion.

There is no word yet on who Hangman or Jericho will be facing at the upcoming episode of their television show. After the announcement, below is the updated lineup for their TV tapings:

Wednesday, October 2 Premiere Episode from Capital One Arena, Washington, DC

  • Jon Moxley appears live
  • Cody Rhodes vs. Sammy Guevara
  • The Young Bucks and Kenny Omega vs. Chris Jericho and two mystery partners
  • The first-ever AEW Women’s Champion will be crowned

Wednesday, October 9from Agganis Arena, Boston

  • Jon Moxley vs. Shawn Spears
  • The Young Bucks vs. Private Party in an AEW Tag Team Titles tournament match

Wednesday, October 16 from Liacouras Center, Philadelphia

  • First-ever AEW World Title defence, Chris Jericho or Adam Page vs. TBA
