Floyd Mayweather Warning To Gervonta Davis Leaks

Gervonta Davis recently revealed what advice he received from pro boxing legend Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Davis and Ryan Garcia recently clashed in a catch-weight grudge match a sold-out T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The two young boxers collided but it was as Davis (29-0, 27 KOs), arguably the top knockout artist in the sport today, floored Ryan Garcia in Round 2 before finishing him off with a body shot in Round 7 to score a one-punch knockout on Saturday. Gervonta Davis remains undefeated with the crushing knockout win.

Garcia (23-1, 19 KOs) was game throughout and landed a series of single power shots to get Davis’ attention. However, he was unable to beat the count following a sneaky counter left hand to the body.

Garcia came out hot and had success using quick right hands and mauling shots inside in Round 2 to get Davis’ attention but a beautiful counter right hand knocked Garcia down hard after he missed a lead left hook.

The all-time boxing great has played a major role in Gervonta Davis’ success in the sport. Mayweather acted as a mentor and coach to the reigning WBA lightweight champion during Davis’ time under Mayweather Promotions.

Even before the fight against Garcia, Mayweather went inside the ring as Davis was about to fight. It was a strange sight considering Davis was no longer with Mayweather Promotions. Throughout the fight, Mayweather was advising Davis, which was also odd. Mayweather celebrated when Davis dropped Garcia in the second.

At the post-fight press conference, ‘Tank’ was asked by a journalist what Mayweather’s advice was prior to the bout. According to Davis, his mentor simply told him to stay calm, which he listened to given that Mayweather has been in Davis’ shoes before, having fought on the grandest of stages in boxing.

“He was telling me to just stay calm. I always like to listen to Floyd when it comes to big stages like this cause he’s the only one that’s been in my shoes and been, like, in these types of fights, you know what I mean? So I always try to stay close to Floyd when it comes to stuff like this happens, just to keep me humble and you know, like, have me on the right track, you know what I mean? So I always appreciate Floyd for being in my corner, for having my back, always. You know what I mean? So always will be love for Floyd Mayweather.”
