Former WWE Champion Returns Next Week On Smackdown

John Cena has not been seen on WWE programming after losing a Firefly Funhouse Match to ‘The Fiend’ Bray Wyatt at WWE WrestleMania 36 – however, that seems like it’s going to change. Fightful Select is reporting that John Cena is reportedly scheduled to WWE programing as soon as this month and that the plan is for Cena to return at the July 23th edition of WWE SmackDown. Has John Cena’s schedule for his WWE return leaked?

This edition of SmackDown is significant because it’s the first edition of the blue brand following WWE’S Money in the Bank pay-per-view event. While a potential SummerSlam matchup featuring John Cena and ‘The Tribal Chief’ and current WWE Universal Champion, Roman Reigns has been rumored for WWE SummerSlam for some time now, there is no current plans on how they will get to that matchup. Of course, Reigns is scheduled to face Edge at this year’s Money in the Bank.

Last month, John Cena stated that we haven’t seen the last of him in a WWE ring as he told Jimmy Fallon the following on ‘The Tonight Show’. Credit to People for the below quotes.

John Cena ‘blocked’ this major WWE firing. “Those rumors are true. I’ll definitely be back to the WWE, I just don’t know when.” “I was feeling rather nostalgic about the WWE and I just wanted to post the logo and some people took it as I was returning immediately, which that’s not the case,” he continued. “But I haven’t had my last match and I can’t wait to have my next one.” “All these opportunities have led to more opportunities,” the star said to Fallon. “I’ve said this before, once you do one of these things, insurance doesn’t let you go wrestle on the weekends. So, we’ll see what happens.”
