FOX ‘Upset’ With WWE, Will Smackdown Be Canceled?

On the latest episode of the “Nitty Gritty Dirt Show” on RussosBrand.com, host Billi Bhatti and former WWE writer Vince Russo, discussed how WWE are worried that FOX might cancel WWE Smackdown now that the company has signed their lucrative WWE Network deal with competitive network, NBC Universal. Wrestling-Edge transcribed Bhatti’s comments below. Adam Pearce Botched this Roman Reigns Promo on Smackdown last night.

Bhatti: I would have thought that if this deal had gone well then the idea would have been for FOX to emerge as frontrunners in negotiations for Raw as well because the Raw deal comes up first. However, I think WWE hasn’t exactly ‘wowed’ FOX, they know the haven’t wowed FOX and the meetings that they’ve had as well as the phone calls probably tell them ‘we’re not happy’ with what you are doing here and I think the NBC Peacock deal is a massive concession that they are going to all in with that company. This is the side that they are taking, the deal was excellent and Nick Khan is realistic in conceding it.

This week’s edition of WWE Smackdown from the WWE Thunderdome inside Tampa Bay’s Tropicana Field saw Seth Rollins returning to Smackdown after a lengthy absence from the blue brand. Rollins’ return bombed in the Smackdown ratings.

In addition, Kevin Owens, Jey Uso, Ceasaro, Daniel Bryan, Sami Zayn and King Corbin all secured their spots in the Elimination Chamber with the winner of that matchup getting an immediate title shot against current WWE Universal Champion – ‘The Tribal Chief’ Roman Reigns. Elimination Chamber airs February 21st on the WWE Network.
