According to Conservative Brief, Alex Soros, the son of billionaire George Soros, who now leads the Open Society Foundations, has expressed a strong commitment to opposing former President Donald Trump should he become the GOP nominee in the 2024 U.S. presidential election. In an op-ed for Politico, Alex Soros outlined his concerns that a “MAGA-style” Republican victory could have detrimental effects on European unity and the progress made in response to the conflict in Ukraine.
Alex Soros suggested that defeating Trump is essential for the Open Society Foundations’ work in Europe, which has focused on challenging traditional democratic values on the continent, similar to his father’s efforts in the United States over the years. He also pledged financial support for initiatives aimed at opposing Trump in the upcoming election.
In addition, Alex Soros affirmed the foundation’s commitment to supporting its Ukrainian affiliate, which has played a significant role in civil society efforts and received substantial funding from the Open Society Foundations.
In recent years, the Open Society Foundations have faced criticism for their support of progressive causes and campaigns, including funding far-left district attorney candidates in Democratic-run cities. Critics argue that these candidates have implemented policies that have led to increased crime rates.
“As someone who spends up to half their time working on the Continent and thinks former United States President Donald Trump — or at least someone with his isolationist and anti-European policies — will be the Republican nominee, I believe a MAGA-style Republican victory in next year’s U.S. presidential election could, in the end, be worse for the EU than for the U.S.,” Alex Soros wrote, in part.
“Such an outcome will imperil European unity and undermine the progress achieved on many fronts in response to the war in Ukraine,” he continued, going on to pledge financial support for efforts to oppose Trump: “We are adapting [Open Society Foundations] to be able to respond to whatever scenarios might emerge, on both sides of the Atlantic.”
Former President Trump has been a vocal critic of George Soros and his influence, particularly regarding district attorney appointments. Trump has pledged to appoint U.S. attorneys who are the opposite of what he calls “Soros district attorneys,” emphasizing his commitment to addressing perceived issues with the justice system.
Trump’s campaign video released in August 2023 outlined his intention to overhaul the Department of Justice and investigate “Marxist” district attorneys, while also promising to protect civil rights and confront radicalized elements in various institutions.
There is no more dire threat to the American way of life than the corruption and weaponization of our justice system. And it’s happening all around us. As president, it will be my personal mission to restore the scales of justice in America. We want fairness and equality under the law. And to that end, I will appoint US attorneys who will be the polar opposite of the Soros district attorneys and others that are being appointed throughout the United States. Very unfair to our population, very unfair to our country,” Trump declared.
Trump said that the attorneys he would appoint would be “the most ferocious legal warriors against crime and communist corruption that this country has ever seen.”
“As we completely overhaul the Federal Department of Justice and FBi, we will launch sweeping civil rights investigations into Marxist local district attorneys. And that’s what we have, they’re Marxist in many cases. By refusing to charge countless crimes, the Soros prosecutors appear to be engaging in selective enforcement based on illegal radical discrimination,” he said.
“In addition, we will have a complete investigation into the use of police state tactics by federal authorities to arrest conservatives and Christians. We will find out who ordered it and hold them totally accountable,” the former president said.
“There is much more that we must to, we have to confront this radicalized law in schools… we have to reform the far-left bar associations and stop the purge of conservative lawyers from major law firms,” Trump continued. “I will do whatever it takes to save our legal system, among the greatest achievements of Western civilization, from the Marxist barbarians
