Georgia Governor Betrays Trump For Jack Smith

Special Counsel Jack Smith, who is leading the investigation into former President Donald Trump’s attempts to overturn the 2020 presidential election, has reached out to Georgia Governor Brian Kemp. During the election, Trump urged Kemp to overturn the election results in Georgia after narrowly losing the swing state to Joe Biden. Kemp refused to comply with Trump’s demands and publicly denounced his efforts, which led to Trump endorsing a challenger in Kemp’s 2022 GOP gubernatorial primary.

The Justice Department, including Jack Smith’s Special Consel office, contacted Governor Kemp’s office earlier this week, as confirmed by a statement from Kemp’s spokesperson, Andrew Isenhour. However, the governor’s office declined to provide further comments on the matter.

Smith’s team has also been in touch with former Arizona Republican Governor Doug Ducey, who faced pressure from Trump to overturn the election results in his state while in office.

Federal investigators are specifically examining Trump’s actions and those of his top lawyers, including their organization of fake electors to submit votes to Congress on his behalf and their efforts to persuade then-Vice President Mike Pence to block the certification of the election results.

Federal investigators are focused on Trump’s efforts, as well as those of his top lawyers as they organized fake electors to submit votes to Congress on his behalf and sought to sway then-Vice President Mike Pence into blocking the election result certification.

Trump received a target letter in Smith’s investigation last Sunday, and his team is now bracing for an indictment in the case.

The target letter cites three statutes that Trump could be charged with: pertaining to deprivation of rights; conspiracy to commit an offense against or defraud the United States; and tampering with a witness, according to multiple news outlets, including The Wall Street Journal, that cited a person familiar with the matter.
