Davis vs Barrios was a huge fight that ended in a huge way as the two fought like warriors through the entire contest. The fight was so looked forward to that the ticket sales for the bout were pretty insane as well…Mario Barrios Gives ‘Sad Excuse’ For Gerntova Davis Loss.
Dan Rafael stated the following about the ticket sales for the fight: “PBC announces that #DavisBarrios is a sellout at 16,570. Top Rank announces #LomaNakatani is also a sellout at 2,072. #boxing”
The count for the last half of the fight was the following: Gervonta Davis landed 11 punches in the first 4 rounds and then 85 in the final 6.5 rounds. Davis landed 45% of his power punches (82/182). The game Mario Barrios out landed Davis in 6 of the 10 completed rounds.
Davis scored two big knockdowns in the eight, to change the entire fight around.
Davis continued to go after Barrios in the eleventh. Davis landed a big shot to the body and Barrios went down in pain. Barrios beat the count with Davis going after him, with the contest waved off as Barrios was still hurt.
Elsewhere on the card, Erickson Lubin may have secured his rematch with Jermell Charlo by stopping Jeison Rosario with a sixth-round TKO in the co-main event. Lubin, a former junior middleweight title challenger, broke Rosario down to the body before landing the seminal blow to the head and dropping Rosario.
A follow-up punch appeared to land with Rosario on the ground, but the referee still called off the fight with Rosario writhing in agony from the body blow. It was the second straight defeat by body shot TKO suffered by Rosario, who was also stopped by Charlo in the same fashion last September.
