The former WWE Universal Champion Goldberg made his shocking return on this week’s Legends Night edition of Monday Night Raw and he went onto challenge Drew McIntyre for the WWE Championship at Royal Rumble pay-per-view.
Why Goldberg is set to face Drew McIntyre?
Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Radio revealed the reason of him facing McIntyre for the WWE title.
He said that the idea was pitched out of nowhere and it was not pre planned. With the build up with Roman Reigns facing Goldberg, that wasn’t a swerve and none wss ready about this.
He said:
“The Goldberg thing, so Bill Goldberg vs Drew McIntyre is going to be the main event of the Royal Rumble. So this was decided on Saturday. So if you’re wondering why Goldberg did all this buildup with Roman Reigns if he’s going to wrestle Drew McIntyre and it’s like, that is your answer. It wasn’t a swerve. It wasn’t to throw people off. It was because they had nobody ready for anything.”

Goldberg’s last match was against Braun Strowman at WrestleMania in a losing effort.
On the other hand, McIntyre will have his third title defense after he successfully defended against Keith Lee last night and both AJ Styles and the Miz in a triple threat match at TLC pay-per-view.
