Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton took to Twitter to criticize “MAGA Republicans” for the recent heat wave hitting communities nationwide. Her post came in response to a tweet from the Center for American Progress, which blamed Republicans for exacerbating the climate crisis. The tweet highlighted how Republicans voted against the Inflation Reduction Act, a climate package proposed by Democrats and signed into law by President Biden in 2022.
Clinton’s post urged people to hold “MAGA Republicans” accountable for the heat wave and suggested voting them out of office. This comes amid above-average summer temperatures, with Democrats attributing the heat to climate change. However, some climate experts, like Ryan Maue, have pointed out that heatwaves have occurred throughout history.
Maue noted that the recent heat in the U.S. Southwest would have been possible even without climate change, citing past instances of extreme heat in different decades. He also highlighted that Clinton’s tweet was made just days after a New York Times editorial calling for the politicization of the weather.
According to the FOX Forecast Center, the current week is set to be the hottest of the summer, with about 75% of the nation experiencing above-average temperatures. Excessive heat warnings and advisories are in effect for millions of Americans, particularly along the East Coast.
Hot enough for you?
Thank a MAGA Republican.
Or better yet, vote them out of office. https://t.co/0MFC6rPq6o
