Iiconics member possible WWE exit following tag-team split

Billie Kay may be saying good-bye to more than just her former tag-team partner (and long time pal) Peyton Royce.

As Wrestling-Edge previous reported, Kay recently spoke with Chris Van Vliet of “The Chris Van Vliet Show” where she shared her thoughts when it came to pursuing a singles career.

“I think we eventually do want to do some sort of singles career,” Kay admitted. “I think that just all comes down to evolving as who we are, as Billie and Peyton and as The IIconics. So when that happens I think that we’ll both have so much fun doing that.”

The Aussie tag-team duo joined NXT in 2015 and debuted on NXT television October 5, 2016. After unsuccessfully chasing the NXT Women’s Championship. they were called up to the main roster in April of 2018 where they joined SmackDown. Just one year later, The Iiconics would make a, well “iconic” victory as Kay pinned Bayley in a Fatal Four-Way Tag-Team Match (Bayley & Sasha Banks vs. Nia Jax & Tamina vs. The Iiconics vs. Beth Phoenix & Natalya) to captured the Women’s Tag Team Championship at WrestleMania 35 making them the first all-Australian tag-team in WWE history.

The duo would later lose their tag-team titles to Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross in yet another Fatal Four-Way Elimination Match in August of 2019 on RAW, thus ending their 120 day reign as champions. The Aussies were then drafted to RAW in October 2019 where they lost one final match to Charlotte Flair and Natalya before a hiatus that kept them under wraps for almost 7 months.

The Iiconics made their return in May of 2020 to interrupt the WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross. Over the summer they started a feud with Ruby Riott on the grounds that Riott “had no friends” and traded victories as Kay and Royce defeated Riott while Riott went on to defeat Kay. They were then defeated at Payback this month.

On the August 31, 2020 edition of WWE Monday Night RAW, the very next night after Payback, The Iiconics were in their last match as a tag-team where they went head-to-head with the recently reunited Riott Squad (Liv Morgan and Ruby Riott) in a stipulation match. Kay was pinned by Riott forcing The Iiconics to disband as both members cried and hugged in the ring following The Riott Squad’s victory.

With Peyton Royce (Cassandra McIntosh) reportedly set for a starring role in coming months, as WWE is set to give Peyton a singles push, Billie Kay (Jessica McKay) may be getting the boot from WWE.

“It’s very clear that they have no plans for Billie Kay,” Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer said, via Sportskeeda adding, “Billie Kay might be going away, and they know it.”

Earlier this week on WWE RAW, Billie Kay and Peyton Royce faced off against one another in a singles match. The match ended with Peyton Royce winning clean and we saw the former partners hug after the match. Reports have been circulating that WWE is set to give Peyton Royce a singles push after the IIconics splitting up.

A RAW Underground knockout defeat to Jessamyn Duke has also been taken as an indication that WWE will move on from Kay.
