Lockdown was an annual event held by Impact, or TNA as it was known back then, with all the matches in the event taking place inside a steel cage. It was considered one of the flagship events in TNA, along with Slammiversary and Bound for Glory.
Lockdown was first created in 2005 and it was held annually for twelve years, with the last event taking place in 2016.
Besides every match featuring a steel cage, additional gimmicks were also added to the steel cage stipulation. Matches like Lethal Lockdown and Xscape Match were a staple of Lockdown.
Lethal Lockdown is a variant of the WarGames match from WCW. The Xscape match consists of multiple stages and wrestlers. The rule for the wrestlers is to eliminate each other by pinfall and submission. When the match is down to two wrestlers, the only way to win is to escape the cage. The Queen of the Cage match is similar to a reverse battle royal but has only been held at 2 Lockdown events.
Tickets for 2019’s Lockdown event go on sale this Friday at 8 AM ET. They can be purchased at this link.
