Is WWE Going To Release Kevin Owens?

Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn have a storied rivalry that has continued throughout various promotions including ROH and WWE. Kevin Owens also recently dropped a cryptic AEW bombshell.

With former WWE NXT Superstar Adam Cole making his way to AEW at the AEW All Out pay-per-view, many fans have been wondering if more top talents will take their skills to AEW as well. Thanks to Kevin Owens’ recent tweet, many fans began speculating that he will make his way to the company as well.

To add to the rumors, Kevin Owens once again dropped a huge hint regarding his AEW status. The former Universal Champion made a slight tweak to his Twitter account, which definitely did not go unnoticed by fans. He did something similar to what The Young Bucks have done on the social networking platform.

However, all speculations were put to rest after it was revealed that Kevin Owens signed a new contract with WWE. It was said to be a deal of multiple years and worth millions of dollars. According to the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, it was said that due to the nature of the contract being worth 2-3 million dollars a year, it is likely Owens will be released before his current contract runs out.

“It’s in line with what I heard. Someone in his position, who can come in and out of the main events, upper mid card, will make that level at this time. But he won’t get the 90-day clause waived. He wasn’t going to get more money….

The 2-3 million a year range is so blinding to people, they sign, not realizing it’s a 90 day contract that renews every day at WWE’s sole discretion. It’s how they `got’ Windham Rotunda. He was going to get 3 mil, 3 year term. They went to a 5 year term. He held. They inched up towards 4. He jumped at it. But it’s still a 90 day contract. And with the higher number, it takes less and less to trigger the release.”
