Yesterday at UFC 284’s official weigh-ins, Islam Makhachev was the final combatant to step onto the scale. The lightweight champion weighed in at a lean 155 pounds, ensuring that the highly-anticipated lightweight championship bout would proceed as scheduled.
Michael Bisping, who will be part of the commentary team for UFC 284 along with Jon Anik and Dominick Cruz, stated that he was informed that there was a high probability that Islam Makhachev might not make weight before the lightweight championship weigh-in.
Bisping, along with Cruz and Robert Whittaker, hosted the official weigh-in show, and later released a video detailing the suspense surrounding Makhachev’s weight loss process.
“Rumor is that he was struggling. And he was one of the last to come down. So we were getting told by the producers, ‘Just be ready because there’s a very good possibility that Islam doesn’t make weight.”
