Islam Makhachev’s path to the weigh-in scales was fraught with difficulties, and when he finally reached his desired weight, the emotions he had been suppressing boiled over. The declaration that he had made the 155-pound limit brought tears to his eyes, as the relief of knowing he could concentrate solely on the fight ahead flooded over him. Makhachev’s raw display of emotion captured the intensity of the moment and showcased his dedication to the sport.

Michael Bisping, who will be part of the commentary team for UFC 284 along with Jon Anik and Dominick Cruz, stated that he was informed that there was a high probability that Islam Makhachev might not make weight before the lightweight championship weigh-in.

Bisping, along with Cruz and Robert Whittaker, hosted the official weigh-in show, and later released a video detailing the suspense surrounding Makhachev’s weight loss process.

“Rumor is that he was struggling. And he was one of the last to come down. So we were getting told by the producers, ‘Just be ready because there’s a very good possibility that Islam doesn’t make weight.”
