Jake Paul vs. Woodley ‘Embarrassing’ PPV Buys Leak

Jake Paul and Tyron Woodley was a fight that left a sour taste in many mouths due to the outcome of it. Numbers are now in to give us a glimpse into just how well this ordeal sold. A lot of people said they would be skipping this embarrassing fight, but the numbers don’t lie. Evander Holyfield ‘Delusional Rant’ After Loss Leaks.

Dave Meltzer dived in deep on this one as he stated: “Showtime has not made an announcement of the PPV numbers for the Jake Paul vs. Tyron Woodley fight on 8/28. So I’d take any numbers with a grain of salt because the Jake Paul vs. Ben Askren numbers were ridiculously inflated. The only number that has surfaced publicly was 900,000 from Woodley, but fighters are often lied to, and also if Floyd Mayweather vs. Logan Paul did 1 million the idea Woodley did 900,000 makes no sense. Woodley also claimed it was the fifth biggest PPV number in history which lots of sites went with, and obviously 900,000 is nowhere close to that. Fighters are often told bullsh*t numbers by promoters after the fight. Our best PPV sources were estimating it at around 480,000 to 500,000 buys and some others believe it was a little lower than that. It’s still good for a freak show fight but nothing like the numbers floating around.

Dave closed: “Showtime as a public company, if they give a number, it has to be close to real. The fact they haven’t yet would tell you it had to be well under 900,000. UFC often exaggerated its numbers in the past, but now, with Endeavor as a public company, if you see a UFC number coming from the promotion, it is going to be close (because nobody really knows the final numbers until 90 to 100 days after the show) and you only hear the numbers when the show does well. When the show doesn’t do well, you aren’t going to hear the numbers. Both fighters got a $2 million base and points on the PPV. Woodley once made $3 million for a fight with Stephen Thompson because he got PPV points as champion on a show headlined by Conor McGregor”

This is really a lot to take in, so let’s break this down into one bite sized piece – no one really knows the exact numbers. This isn’t anything new, however. For example, in the WWE, the live attendance numbers are just for show. It’s not the actual count. Let’s call this half a million buys at a rate of $59.99 per buy. That would bring the grand total made off of the fight to $29,995,000.

Once you pay Jake Paul and Tyron Woodley at $2,000,000 a pop, that leaves you with $25,995,000 left to cover everything and go to others as well as Triller. The fight looks like it was a bigger success than most thought.
