Jim Ross compares commentary experience between WWE and AEW

Jim Ross, the veteran commentator during latest episode of the Grilling JR Podcast, talked about his experience as a commentator previously working in WWE and now at AEW.

Jim Ross spots the differences in working experience

The veteran commentator recalled how Vince McMahon, the WWE Chairman used to be in the gorilla position and produce the commentators.

Vince used to put in words in the ear of the commentators. Good Ol’ JR also discussed the treatment he used to receive from Vince while working with long-time co-commentator, Jerry ‘The King’ Lawler.

JR claims that Vince would always lambaste him for the mistakes made by Lawler. The commentary duo would enjoy the time when Vince was not in the backstage and worked as a performer.

Ross then differentiated how he is working in AEW comfortably. Tony Khan, the AEW President never intervenes in their job and the commentators and call the matches with ease.

Jim Ross said:

“When Vince was a performer, it was a glorious time because it allowed Lawler and I to create our own content. Much like we do on Wednesday nights on TNT, we create our content. Tony Khan is not in our ear. Occasionally, he’ll say something. Things are fluid, things change sometimes. Nonetheless, that was almost like a night off. It was fun – you look forward to it because you can get in your groove, get your flow going. And hopefully the flow is good enough so the viewers like it.”

Ross has expressed his pleasure of working in the current promotion and has lauded the same on multiple occassions.
