Jim Ross discusses WWE accidentally putting Matt Hardy over on his way out

WWE tried to bury Matt Hardy on his way out of the company but according to wrestling legend Jim Ross, the officials instead got him more over when he was leaving the company.

Matt Hardy made his AEW debut during last week’s episode of AEW Dynamite and Ross talked about it on the latest episode of his Grilling JR podcast.

Talking about his departure from the company, the former WWE commentator said that because of their mismanagement, the company got him more over on his way out than they did while he was still there:

“Why would you have someone on your payroll…and you’re paying them. And you’re travelling them, you’re putting them on television. If you want their character to die?” JR began. “That’s like when WWE was going to do the last few things with Matt Hardy. That was their intent [WWE], to bury Matt Hardy, right? But for their own mismanagement and lack of attention to detail and lack of common sense, they got Matt Hardy over more on his way out than they did while he was there.”

Jim Ross continued by saying that including Hardy into hot angles like the one with Randy Orton and giving him promo time made him more over:

“He was doing promos, he was in hot angles. He’s with Randy Orton blah blah blah. So you’re not burying him, you’re getting him over dumbass. And so now Matt Hardy’s in AEW which is going to be great for us, I think.”
