JR isn’t the only big wrestling name to be dealing with health issues, as WWE Intercontinental Champion Shinsuke Nakamura has not been witnessed competing inside the squared circle for nearly a month and as it turns out, the reason for that is due to an injury. Nakamura’s last singles match was against Damian Priest on the Survivor Series kickoff show before he worked a tag team match on the December 10 episode of WWE SmackDown and then another tag bout on the December 18th house show in Rockford, Illinois. Previously, Shinsuke Nakamura’s embarrassing botch was revealed.
Shinsuke Nakamura is not medically cleared
Nakamura was scheduled to defend the WWE Intercontinental Title against Sami Zayn at the Day 1 PPV event earlier this month and while the company announced it for the show, the match was pulled from the event with no explanation. Speaking to Ryan Satin on Out of Character podcast, Rick Boogs mentioned that he enjoyed working with Nakamura although the duo only had a handful of tag team matches. He further stated that Nakamura isn’t medically cleared right now due to a hand injury.
Here is what he said:
“We’ve only had a couple of tag matches together and he suffered a hand injury that has kept him out for close to two months now, it seems like. So I’m looking forward to him being healthy and cleared so we can kick some tail.”
Last year, Sami won the 12 Days of Christmas 12-Man Gauntlet Match that made him the number one contender for the Intercontinental Championship. It seems that upon Nakamura being cleared to wrestle, Sami Zayn is likely to be the first in line to get the shot at the Intercontinental Championship. We will have to wait and see when Nakamura makes his in-ring return.
