The Grilling JR podcast continues to be a good source for stories from one of the best narrators of the pro wrestling business of all-time, WWE Hall Of Fame legend Jim Ross.
On a recent edition of the show, which “Good Ole’ J.R.” co-hosts alongside Conrad Thompson, the longtime friend of fellow WWE Hall Of Fame legend “Stone Cold” Steve Austin spoke about the issues WWE faced in trying to turn “The Texas Rattlesnake” heel during his wildly popular run in the late 1990’s and early 2000’s.

“I think Austin’s turning heel in his home state, in his home market, at WrestleMania was ill-planned. Getting Steve over as a heel was never going to work. People smarter than me who are millennial now may say ‘Well I could have done that.’ It’s just miscasting. That’s why all the great directors in Hollywood kept John Wayne a baby face. That’s why when guys started directing Clint Eastwood, he was a character baby face. He was a cold-heart-killer, but he was a hero, and he was a baby face because he had a cause. I’m a big believer that the audience was never gonna accept Steve as a villain. And they didn’t.”
