John Cena Drops Steve Austin Match Bombshell

John Cena has teased a match with Steve Austin in a new photo ahead of his WWE SmackDown return.

Austin wrestled Kevin Owens at WrestleMania 38. WWE star Kevin Owens recently missed this week’s edition of Friday Night SmackDown. The reason has emerged as to why he missed the show.

Kevin Owens had a ‘travel situation’

Sean Sapp reported behind Fightful’s paywall that Kevin Owens was supposed to be a SmackDown for this week’s double tapings. Sadly, Kevin Owens could not make SmackDown this week. His situation was described as a “nightmare travel situation.”

“Kevin Owens was supposed to be featured on the double Smackdown tapings, but couldn’t make it due to what WWE told us was a “nightmare travel situation.” As a result, Owens had to be written out of the shows and major production and writing changes were made. Originally Owens was supposed to be face-to-face with the Bloodline to introduce the John Cena video.”

WWE had recently confirmed on SmackDown that John Cena is set to make a huge return on the December 30th edition of SmackDown. The 16-time World Champion hadn’t appeared on WWE programming since the celebration of the 20th anniversary of his WWE debut back in June. He indicated during an in-ring promo that he wasn’t sure when he’d be competing again, and had given no indication that he’ll be back before the end of 2022. With a huge surprise, Cena made an appearance on SmackDown to accept Kevin Owens’ offer for a match against The Bloodline.
