John Cena pulled from Royal Rumble

Last week, the WWE revealed that John Cena had suffered an ankle injury during the Fatal-4-Way match on the January 14th edition of Monday Night Raw between himself, Finn Balor, Drew McIntyre, and Baron Corbin. While the severity of the injury was unknown, it seems it may keep him out of the Royal Rumble tonight.

Over the week, the Wrestling Observer claimed it to be a storyline to explain his upcoming absence while he leaves to film his upcoming movie, Playing With Fire. Regardless, he will miss tonight’s event, as the WWE officially revealed earlier today that John Cena would not be participating in tonight’s Royal Rumble PPV.

Considering the injury took place while Drew McIntyre had Cena in an ankle lock during the Fatal-4-Way, along with McIntyre stating recently that facing Cena at WrestleMania would be an ideal spot for him, we could see that program start once Cena returns just in time for the event.
