John Cena WWE Return Match ‘Shot Down’

John Cena Vs. Drew McIntyre? While it sounds like a total dream match, and was heavily rumored for while by members of the internet wrestling community and the WWE Universe, sadly this match has to stay ‘on paper’. Plans change all the time in the world of professional wrestling and after all, the biggest line in the industry is ‘card subject to change’ due to said plans always changing.

However, while this alleged match was set to take place at Summerslam last year, but was ‘called off’ due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, as Steve Carrier, editor of Ringside News tweeted out, this is nothing but fiction. This Nikki Bella ‘bedroom’ claim will anger John Cena.

Carrier stated: “Sorry to start the day like this. There is a rumor going around that WWE nixed Drew McIntyre vs John Cena at SummerSlam (in Boston) last year. The RUMORED plan was for McIntyre to win and continue his massive push. We have asked around and can confirm that this is 100% false.”

Carrier’s tweet and account is directly at odds to what former WWE creative team members and Nitty Gritty Dirt Show hosts Vince Russo and Billi Bhatti stated recently, insisting that the match was indeed planned.

In other news regarding John Cena, former WCW Executive and RAW General Manager Eric Bischoff recently guested on the It’s Our House podcast to discuss who he believes the next John Cena could be – to this, Bischoff only had one name, that being former AEW TNT Champion Cody Rhodes. Bischoff made the following remarks.

“I think when you talk about somebody who has the potential to transcend the business, that means to become a bigger star, or at least a star outside of the wrestling business as inside of the wrestling business. That’s how John Cena became a big star because everywhere you looked, including WWE, but outside of WWE, you would see John Cena. He became that.

Bischoff continued: “WWE was preaching outside of the choir. And they connected with people that they weren’t connected with just on the wrestling show by using John Cena because he had that potential and ability to transcend the business in that regard. I think Cody Rhodes has the same potential.”
