Jon Moxley captures IWGP title at BOSJ finals

Jon Moxley is off to a terrific start after his departure from the WWE. After making an appearance at the end of the Double or Nothing pay-per-view, Moxley has now won the coveted IWGP title at NJPW’s Best Of Super Juniors finals. Moxley defeated Juice Robinson to claim the belt.

The match, which in itself was a riveting hard-hitting encounter, ended with Moxley debuting his new finisher The Death Rider and picking up the three count to end the match and effectively winning the gold.

also Jon becomes the first person to have a WWE US Title reign and a NJPW IWGP US Heavyweight Title reign in pro wrestling history.

Yeah but they are now looking to get more fans outside of Japan.
With things like the upcoming UK show, they know they have to have recognised western talent in prominent positions. The likes of Bullet club and Jericho have given them far more exposure outside Japan than they had had before, so now they are obviously taking guys like Moxley and using him as a torch bearer for western audiences to see. And right now, nobody is a bigger talking point in wrestling than Moxley.

While I’m sure this is a good short term plan for NJPW… I don’t think it’s a good idea for them to continue this pattern long term. They practically handed Jericho a shot at the IWGP title, (he lost the IC title, gets a world title shot without winning a single match), and now they’ve basically done the same with Moxley and the US title.

NJPW used to be a place where people earned their spots.
