Kamaru Usman Tries To Cancel UFC PPV Fight

The ‘Tribute to the Kings’ event headlined by MMA legend Anderson Silva and former WBC middleweight titleholder Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. took place on Saturday, June 19, at Jalisco Stadium in Guadalajara, Mexico. It was promoted by Borizteca Boxing and Toscano Promotions and produced by Global Sports Streaming. As revealed by reports, it seems the promoters of the event wanted to get UFC megastars, Nate and Nick Diaz, to compete in boxing matches at the event as well. However, while Nate Diaz was definitely interested in competing at the event, it seems the UFC prevented him from doing so. Nate Diaz also called out UFC Welterweight Champion Kamaru Usman for picking opponents whom he defeated before. Nate Diaz’s sad apology to Kamaru Usman previously leaked as well.

Kamaru Usman is also a huge fan of Valentina Shevchenko. According to ‘The Nigerian Nightmare, he really wants to see her face off against Amanda Nunes, but a fight against Rose Namajunas would be great too for him.

Colby Covington spoke to ESPN MMA, where he talked about Kamaru Usman and his manager’s initially being hesitant to accept a rematch between himself and Usman.

“It wasn’t supposed to happen. They did not want it to happen. His manager, they were refusing, they were trying to find every way in the book out of fighting this rematch. They didn’t want this fight man and the only reason they have to take it is because the UFC gave him no choice. They said ‘Hey, you just fight this fighter or we strip you, it’s one or the other!’

“In his last fight, he’s beaten a guy Street Judas Masvidal. I was beating that guy decades ago. That’s not an achievement. You’re proud for beating that guy? That guy is a lightweight, he shouldn’t even be up here at the top of the mountain.

No I haven’t seen anything. I see the same fighter. He comes out with a heavy jab, has a big right hand. That’s kind of been the story of his career…yeah he’s knocking out lightweights, he’s knocking out guys that shouldn’t be in there with him, these are easy paychecks…”
