Kenny Omega has left NJPW

The former IWGP Heavyweight Champion and former Bullet Club leader Kenny Omega has officially left New Japan Pro Wrestling. Omega has been rumored to be heading to either AEW or WWE in 2019.

Tokyo-Sports revealed today that Kenny Omega has left NJPW after dropping the IWGP Heavyweight title to Hiroshi Tanahashi at Wrestle Kingdom 13. Omega vented his frustrations about losing the championship to Tanahashi, blaming that as the catalyst for his departure.

There’s no real place for me to fit, so it’s best for me to not be in NJPW. I can’t be there working under Tanahashi. I don’t think he’s surpassed me, don’t think he’s better. If we can, I want to face him again, but I need time away, and not just from New Japan.

Omega commented on the two biggest opportunities, WWE and AEW.

If I go to WWE, the fans will be pleased, and the fans will be pleased if I go to AEW. I want to be in a place where I’m going to be happy.

Hopefully, we’ll know Omega’s decision sooner rather than later. However, saying he needed time away, “not just from New Japan,” seems to imply that he might take some time away from wrestling before making his decision.
