Kenny Omega has left NJPW

The former IWGP Heavyweight Champion and former Bullet Club leader Kenny Omega has officially left New Japan Pro Wrestling. Omega has been rumored to be heading to either AEW or WWE in 2019.

Tokyo-Sports revealed today that Kenny Omega has left NJPW after dropping the IWGP Heavyweight title to Hiroshi Tanahashi at Wrestle Kingdom 13. Omega vented his frustrations about losing the championship to Tanahashi, blaming that as the catalyst for his departure.

There’s no real place for me to fit, so it’s best for me to not be in NJPW. I can’t be there working under Tanahashi. I don’t think he’s surpassed me, don’t think he’s better. If we can, I want to face him again, but I need time away, and not just from New Japan.

Omega commented on the two biggest opportunities, WWE and AEW.

If I go to WWE, the fans will be pleased, and the fans will be pleased if I go to AEW. I want to be in a place where I’m going to be happy.

Hopefully, we’ll know Omega’s decision sooner rather than later. However, saying he needed time away, “not just from New Japan,” seems to imply that he might take some time away from wrestling before making his decision.

I am not a big follower of Kenny as I rarely watch NJPW, but what I do know is that he has earned the right to go where he wants.
The NJPW fans calling him sell out etc need to shut the hell up and thank him for the work he did, and wish him all the best no matter where he goes.

Omega and the Bullet club have done so much to open up the promotion to the world outside Japan, and has been one of the most talked about factions in recent wrestling history, and that has to be viewed as something that should earn him the respect not to be cussed out because people feel betrayed.

What an awful way to finish out a great run: losing to a has been in a story with a crap ending.

Well, so much for my prediction that he’d never leave the NJPW fans.
