Kenny Omega tops the PWI 500

Pro Wrestling Illustrated released its annual top 500 list this week, and the top of the mountain was claimed by none other than NJPW Heavyweight Champion Kenny Omega.

Last year’s list was led by the man Omega defeated for the championship, Kazuchika Okada.

Dan Murphy of PWI stated that the decision to put Omega at the top of the list had to do with his crossover appeal along with the highly rated matches he performed in over the past year. “In a very real way, Kenny Omega embodies 2018 in professional wrestling,” said Murphy. “His success on his own terms has made him an international phenomenon.”

The rest of the top ten can be seen below.

  1. Kenny Omega
  2. AJ Styles
  3. Kazuchika Okada
  4. Brock Lesnar
  5. Seth Rollins
  6. Braun Strowman
  7. Roman Reigns
  8. Cody Rhodes
  9. Tetsuya Naito
  10. The Miz

Do you agree with PWI’s top ten? Should someone else sit at the #1 spot instead of the Best Bout Machine? Let us know in the comments below.

If some other article wants to ask, “who is the worlds greatest superstar”, I would have to start with Omega. Why? Because even though he’s on an independent circuit, doesn’t mean he isn’t good, no. He’s actually one of the biggest stars in this day and age that HASN’t gone mainstream.

I’d put Chris Jericho instead of roman regins his 2 matches in njpw were better then all of regins matches in wwe…

I’m sorry, but the very fact that Lesnar, Strowman and Reigns are on that list, makes it dismissable.

If the idea is supposed to be “people who have consistently had the BEST MATCHES” in that given year? Then those guys don’t belong anywhere near the Top 100, let alone Top 10.

    Ricochet should be in there
