Kofi Kingston almost left WWE prior to joining New Day

Kofi Kingston is having the best run of his career considering that he is set to walk into Summerslam as the WWE Champion. Some believed this was never going to happen.

Kingston spoke to the Ottawa Sun, where he revealed that he almost left WWE until Xavier Woods and Big E joined him to form The New Day. While the stable had a rocky start, five years down the line, they have become arguably the most popular tag team in the company and have won numerous WWE titles.

“It’s always fun and laughs. Woods and E, without them I wouldn’t be here. When they approached me about being in the New Day, I didn’t even know if I wanted to keep wrestling because I was doing the same thing over and over.”

“It became monotonous. Woods and E approached me about getting in this group — guys who weren’t happy with their positions in the company. People told us we sucked, they rejected us. But it wasn’t long before they embraced us. Now, here we are, in a lot of people’s minds one of the greatest factions of all-time. Here we are, the WWE champion and the tag team champions — mission accomplished.”

We will get to know at Summerslam whether Kingston and The New Day are able to retain their titles during the event. It is a relief that Kingston did not quit when he was at the lowest point in his career.
