Kurt Angle reveals that he wanted to face John Cena before retiring

WWE Hall of Famer Kurt Angle retired from in-ring competition after his losing match against Baron Corbin at WrestleMania 35. However, the former WWE Champion revealed that Vince McMahon initially wanted him to wrestle for one more year. He also stated that he wanted to face John Cena before retiring but it wasn’t possible due to him being in a storyline with Corbin.

While speaking to Chris Van Vliet, Kurt Angle discussed the possibility of wrestling John Cena, and how ‘cool’ it would have been:

Because I wanted to retire early and Vince McMahon wanted me to continue the storyline with Baron, there was no possible way. What was ironic was when I got to WrestleMania, I did my throwback to my Team Angle when I wore the hoodie and Cena did his throwback gimmick, we never talked to each other. We just walked up to each other and said…what are you doing? That was way back in 2003 and that would have been cool to bring that back and wrestle John.

Angle praised Baron Corbin as well and noted that he is happy with the way he retired.
