Kurt Angle talks about working his first WWE promo with Vince McMahon

Kurt Angle is a WWE Hall of Famer and has had an incredible career in the company. He made his debut at Survivor Series in 1999, where he defeated Shawn Stasiak in his first match.

During the BASCHAMania podcast, where he revealed that he did not expect would be given many promos when he joined the company. He expected Vince McMahon would use him as a wrestler and at most, he would get a manager.

Initially, I thought Vince (McMahon) would only use me as a wrestler and that I wouldn’t have to speak much. Frankly, I thought I would be assigned a manager.

The night before he made his WWE debut, McMahon approached Angle and told him to rehearse and cut a promo in Pittsburgh. McMahon instructed the lines to him for the promo.

A night before my debut, Vince had me rehearse a preconceived promo at my hometown of Pittsburgh. He was instructing me on what to say but didn’t write down the lines.

However, Angle forgot the lines when he made his way to the arena. This upset McMahon but he forgave Angle and warned him not to repeat the same mistake again.

When I got to the arena in Detroit, I forgot my lines. Vince was pissed at me and said, ‘Ok, here are the lines again but you better not forget again.’

Angle rehearsed his lines next time and was able to remember most of the lines. McMahon was impressed and decided to plan Angle’s future in WWE from then onwards.

Vince said, ‘Ok, I asked this guy to a cut a promo without a script and he did really well. We have something to build off here.

Angle went on to have a career that was full of memorable segments.
